New rules for the recognition of de facto unions as well as their extinction, the inclusion of the use of genetic manipulation and innovations in the order of the last names of the married children, allowing the mother to go first, are some of the proposals for the reform of the Civil Code as indicated in Ministerial Resolution No. 0046-2020-JUS.
The proposal indicates, that embryos, their cells, tissues or organs cannot be transferred, manipulated or destroyed; and that the provision for transplants of organs and tissues of dead embryos is allowed. In addition, fertilization of human ovules may be carried out only for procreation.
Regarding the last names of the married son, it is stated that the first surname of the father and the first of the mother correspond, unless otherwise agreed on the order; and that all children of the same couple must bear the last name of the firstborn, among other improvements such as de facto unions.
